Ok,  this deer head came in and I wanted to show everybody.  Hope you appreciate the size of this specimen.  I did.  You may want to know where and when.  I don’t know and I didn’t ask.  It was last Fall, but what I don’t know, I don’t have to tell.  If you want big deer heads you need to be putting out trophy rocks, etc. and planting food plots, yesterday.  (Note: Can’t get the picture uploaded.  You will just have to come by and I show it to you.  I have it saved on my computer.)

Bird is already plotting and planning for the Fall hunt.  He is trying to walk an extra 2-3 miles every day.   Check his facebook page out.  He is going antelope and elk hunting and it is going to be a long hike for the elk.   Yes, that is why I went to the Mathews Academy.  I will be here while he is gone.  I can do most stuff.  I can put a bow together, tune and time it.  I am slow.  I don’t have all the specification memorized, so I have to look them up.

The store is getting in new stuff every day.  Yesterday we got in spotting scopes and some good Vanguard binoculars.  Today we got in some more hard cases for Mathews bows, made by Plano and Black Creek.  We also have a Bone Collector case, made by Plano.  They are good bow cases, if you plan to travel.  Especially, if plan on taking your bow on the plane.

Also received an order of collectible knives.  I like them, because they are rather “pretty.”  Any of them would make good Father’s Day gifts.

Best wishes,

Mrs. Bird

Fishing stuff

Good morning,

Been thinking about fishing.  No haven’t had time or energy to go fishing; just been thinking about fishing.  We got some Tightline lures in.  They are from Dewey Street, here in Maryville.  You can go to their website http://www.uv-tackle.com and find out how bass see and why the UV-Tackle is so effective.  We also got in the Splash Bob and V-Max from JPlures and the Hydra from Damiki tackle.  All of these have been reviewed in the In Fisherman 2011 Gear Guide.

We are going to offer a Father’s Day Special on our bulk worms.  They are usually 10 for $2.99.  We are going to make them 10 for $2.50 through Father’s Day.   There is quite an assortment and you can pick and choose from all of them to make the 10.   There are crawdads and leeches and lizards among the worms of various types.

Big Fish is June 3rd and 4th.  We have the applications here.  Let us know by Tuesday, May 31st, if you want us to try to get anything special.  Generally, if we order it by Tuesday from this one supplier, we can pick it up in St. Joseph on Wednesday and have it back here by at least 5 pm.

On a personal note, it has been a hard week.  If any of you see a Mathews Passion Bow in the wrong place, let me know.  Mine left the store last week and the GPS left the truck last Thursday.   It makes me very sad.

Best wishes,

Mrs. Bird

Fathers Day Special

Yes, it is me again.  Big Bird has a one track mind and this morning it is putting the grill together.  However, we talked and since we got in all these lovely targets in the last two days, we are going to run a Father’s Day Special.  Targets to anyone purchasing a Father’s Day Gift will be $5 off the standard price.  That means that you can get a Buckshot field point bag target for only $30.   It is a Morrell target.  All our bag targets are Morrell’s.   The Buckshot is only 20 lbs, so even I could carry it in and out to protect it from the elements.

Morrell has some good points on making the life of the target last longer.

1.  rotating the bag every 75-100 shots  and frequently changing the bull’s-eye being shot.

2.  after it starts to sag, lay the target face down on the side with the most shots in it and act like you are trampling out grapes for wine.  Stomp on it heavily to move the material around to areas that have been shot.

3.  Hang the target by the eyelets to allow the target to swing.  This motion allows the loss of energy when the arrow hit s the target and prolongs the life to the target.

We also have the new “Yellow Jacket Six Shooter in.  It is a target that stops both field points and broadheads.   It is called a six shooter because you are to shoot all six sides.

The deer are on special also.  We have a whole herd of deer in the window.

Both the small shooter buck by Field Logic and the Intruder Buck by Delta Targets will be $85 for the Father’s Day Special.   As you can see in the picture (maybe) we have some big deer also.

Before I sign off, I want to thank Ham for helping me move a display unit so we could get space to stack the targets.

Best wishes,

Mrs. Bird

May 16, 2011

The Bird had  flu this weekend.  Yes, he was mighty low, and he is not yet up to full  steam yet.   At least it didn’t hit till after the Catfish Drifters tournament at Mozingo on Saturday.   A lot of nice catfish were caught,  although a few teams only got cold.    It was a very cold, windy day.

Last week the crappie bite was on.   Nice limits were being caught on jigs and minnows.   This weekend, there wasn’t much action from the bank.  But last week these were caught from the bank.

This turkey was taken on the last Saturday of the season.   It was his first turkey and they used a Commando turkey call bought on Friday at Big Birds.
